University of Tennessee Vols (Knoxville, Tennessee): Nancy Drew Cocktail (for men, it’s called A Hardy Boy)
We’re avid 30 Rock watchers, and on the episode where Alec Baldwin’s Jack Donaghy meets Edie Falco’s CC Cunningham, there is a wonderfully alcoholic University of Tennessee reference that we decided to use.
Jack tells the bartender: “I’ll have a white rum with diet ginger ale and a splash of lime.” CC sees what Jack’s ordered and says, “Wow. I never would have pegged you for a University of Tennessee sorority girl.” The bartender hands Jack the drink and says, “Here’s your Nancy Drew.” Jack responds, “For men, it’s called a Hardy Boy.”
Thus, we ventured into Greek drinking, but for a mere evening. And it was a delight. The Nancy Drew is a wonderful cocktail (Laura went back for seconds).

Inspired by 30 Rock
1 1/2 oz. white rum (we used Bacardi)
diet ginger ale
splash of lime
- Pour rum into an old-fashioned glass over ice cubes.
- Fill with diet ginger ale and a splash of lime.
- Garnish with lime wedge.
